Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and one of the most important and controversial American novels of the twentieth century, The Confessions of Nat Turner by William Styron is offered here in the desirable first British edition published by Jonathan Cape, London, in 1968.
The Confessions of Nat Turner is a fictionalised account of the 1831 slave rebellion led by Nat Turner in Virginia and remains a landmark work of modern historical fiction. This copy is bound in the original brown cloth with bright gilt lettering to the spine and retains the scarce original dust jacket.
The book itself is in very good condition, with the brown cloth boards clean and attractive. Internally the volume is good and sound with light foxing and a prior ownership inscription in ink on the copyright page. The dust jacket is present but worn, with the front inner flap detached and some loss and chipping to the top edge and spine area. Despite these faults, the jacket displays well and the book remains a very collectable copy of an increasingly sought-after first UK edition.
Condition – Very Good
Original brown cloth with gilt to spine in very good condition. Dust jacket present but with detached front inner flap, edge wear, and chipping/loss to the top of the spine and upper edge. Internally good with light foxing and prior ownership in ink on copyright page.
