The New Punch Library Complete Set – This attractive complete twenty-volume set of The New Punch Library, edited by J. A. Hammerton, brings together some of the finest humour, satire, illustrations and social commentary published in the legendary British magazine Punch. Issued in matching publisher’s blue cloth bindings with gilt titles and decorative embossed covers, the series remains one of the most visually appealing and entertaining anthologies of twentieth-century British wit.
Drawing upon material published in Punch from the beginning of the twentieth century through the interwar years, the collection covers a remarkable range of subjects including family life, society, travel, sport, motoring, the arts, military affairs, theatre, country life and London society. The volumes feature contributions from many of Britain’s leading humourists, writers and cartoonists, preserving the distinctive style that made Punch one of the most influential and widely read magazines in the English-speaking world.
Titles in The New Punch Library Complete Set include Mr. Punch’s Cavalcade, Mr. Punch in Mayfair, Mr. Punch in the Family Circle, Mr. Punch After Dinner, Mr. Punch’s Children’s Hour, Mr. Punch and the Arts, Mr. Punch and the Services, Mr. Punch with Horse and Hound, Mr. Punch’s Theatricals, Mr. Punch Goes Motoring, Mr. Punch’s Country Manners, Mr. Punch in London Town, Mr. Punch on His Travels, Mr. Punch and Toby’s Friends, Round the Year with Mr. Punch and Mr. Punch in War Time.
Today, complete matching sets are becoming increasingly difficult to find, particularly in such presentable original bindings. Equally suitable for collectors of Punch, students of British social history, and those seeking an impressive decorative library set, this collection offers both historical interest and enduring entertainment.
